This Friday at Lift, our youth gathering, I delivered my first sermon in Estonian.
How did it go, you ask?
Well, my chest was hurting the whole time from being very very scared. The closest thing I could compare it too was what it was like to go through the birth of Oskar. Alex and Nora were not scary because I was familiar with the process, but with Oskar you feel like your on a roller coaster and you look down and realize that your seat belt is gone so you hold on with everything you have. Well Friday I felt that same feeling.
I was speaking on identity. I tried my best to take 4 things that we normally use to determine our identity, Ourselves, things, people and success. I tried to share how that process will not lead to a healthy identity. I then shared that our identity is as children of God, his sons and daughters, prince and princesses of the King. So our identity needs to be firmly in God's identity. So to introduce God's identity, we used the 4'gs, God is Great, Glorious, Good and gracious. These are what we are going through with our church to understand God and guide how we live.
I am not sure if it came out to everyone there so well and I talked about way too many things in the 30 minutes on stage. I also talked really fast cause I got nervous, which is a bad habit that I have, but I did it, and the students seemed to respond. So I have a good feeling about this in the future and I will probably try it again in May on Satruday and Sunday during our Risttee services. I hope to have a lot more time to prepare and even write out a script so I can work on translation a little bit more.
But I think it was a sucess and I really thank God for all of it!
